300 wisdom tooth cases over 12 years. Under the COC pathway, they count for nothing.
At last week`s briefing we shared three situations members have raised with us:
— Dr Chng has 300+ cases behind him, and would still have to start from zero, find five suitable patients, and finish inside six months. — Dr Chye wants to learn from a visiting professor with 30 years of experience, who cannot teach the course here because he is not registered locally. — Dr Kim completed a one-year clinical fellowship overseas with 100+ supervised cases, and would have to repeat training he has already done.
Three questions worth sitting with. Should demonstrated longitudinal experience carry greater weight? Should who teaches matter more than what is taught? Should where you trained outweigh what you can actually do?
The VTF is our answer: document what you do, reflect on it, seek collegial review, and improve over time. Voluntary. Free for members. No quotas, no deadlines.
What you can do now:
Download the clinical log, training log and peer review form from the LMS portal
Keep your logs current
Watch for updates as the VTF develops
Your participation makes the VTF stronger.

Last week we briefed members on the SDA Voluntary Training Framework (VTF) — a pathway built by the profession, for the profession.
Here is the short version.
The VTF is a voluntary way to document, reflect on and validate the work you already do. Three parts:
Training Log — courses, workshops, seminars, hands-on sessions
Clinical Log — cases, procedures, complications, outcomes
Peer Review — optional written attestation from an experienced colleague
What it does not do: no case quotas, no deadlines, no artificial ceiling on what you may practise. Cases from any point in your career count. Any SDC-accredited CDE provider counts. Overseas training counts. Free for members.
Dental Protection has welcomed the framework as a positive contribution to professional standards and patient care.
Swipe through for the full picture. Forms and details are on the SDA LMS portal.

Master the Art of Invisible Anterior Composite Restorations
Join this one-day course designed to help clinicians achieve predictable, natural-looking anterior direct composite restorations. Through a combination of lectures, clinical case discussions, and hands-on training, participants will gain practical insights into tooth colour analysis, composite shade selection, layering strategies, and modern restorative workflows.
Learn how to understand the relationship between colour, morphology, and light, while exploring key concepts such as clinical photography, bevel design, incisal characterisation, whitening protocols, and techniques for reproducing natural tooth morphology and surface texture. The course also includes step-by-step demonstrations and a hands-on Class IV anterior restoration workshop, allowing participants to apply simplified shade selection and layering techniques in a clinical setting.
By the end of the program, attendees will be equipped with the knowledge, skills, and decision-making framework needed to consistently deliver aesthetic, lifelike anterior composite restorations with greater confidence and predictability.
